Walmart to create 1,500 jobs with new fulfillment center in Florida

RBR Staff Writer Published 20 July 2017

Walmart has opened a new e-commerce fulfillment center in Florida to make faster shipping of ordered items directly to customers or to stores for free pickup.

The new e-commerce fulfillment center which has come up in Davenport is expected to create around 1,500 jobs for Polk County residents. It will store millions of items dedicated to fulfilling online orders, stated the retailer.

The new 50-acre facility is expected to support its fast growing e-commerce business which had seen a growth of 63% in Q1 2017 in the US. It is the sixth e-commerce fulfillment center in Walmart’s network across the US and the first in Florida.

Walmart US ecommerce supply chain senior vice president Nate Faust said: “This campus is just the latest example of Walmart’s commitment to offering customers fast shipping on items they need every day.

“We’re excited not only about the economic impact our facility has had, and will continue to have, in the community, but also how it will help us empower our customers to shop when and how they want.”

According to Walmart, the Davenport fulfillment center is part of its investment of over $450m allocated for Florida.

The retailer also plans to open nine new stores in Florida and create over 800 jobs associated with their operations.

Besides, Walmart has plans to remodel over 40 locations across the state as part of the multi-million-dollar capital investment plan.

The supermarket company has been consolidating its e-commerce segment with the acquisitions of Jet.com, Bonobos, ModCloth and Moosejaw in the recent times.
